McKennitt Makes Haunting Melodies In Heroic Return

[…] It was a triumphant return for Loreena McKennitt last night at the Jubilee Auditorium. The Celtic-heavy, New Age giant has been away from the industry for almost nine years, and most of our memories of her performing live are likely linked to her last folk fest appearance in 2005.

The Canadian legend has endured personal trials, including the death of her fiancé several years ago in a boating accident.

It was a performance full of hope that McKennitt gave at the Jubilee last night. Fans were soothed and cooled by her haunting melodies.

A stellar nine-piece band and a lush stage set provided all the eerie atmosphere required for the Celtic queen’s ethereal masterpieces. The Mummer’s Dance pounded out with a renewed, vibrant melancholy, and the tracks from her new album, An Ancient Muse, sounded as solid as ever, an indication that McKennitt has staying power. […]
