I’m a rather old programmer / wage slave, Pagan, caretaker (sign: Cancer), and widow. I have had more than my fair share of experience with the broken health care industry in the United States. I won’t call it a system, because system implies something that functions.
I suffer from various chronic illnesses, none of which are particularly life threatening at this juncture. However, that fact, combined with the two years of intense experience with Barbara’s ultimately fatal illness, gives me a unique point of view on health care in the United States. Barbara had a PPO, I now have “junk insurance”. Hers was self-purchased, mine is employer-provided.
I am also a strong proponent of equal rights for all people, no matter their age, gender / gender identity, creed, sexual orientation. Adults should be able to love who they love, and marry who they will, without reservation. Nothing less than a fully inclusive ENDA is sufficient.
